About Julie Sinkins & NetGain Nutrition

Meet Julie Sinkins

As a former professional tennis player and an experienced coach, my passion for sports and nutrition runs deep. My journey into nutrition began as a young athlete on the professional tennis circuit, where I faced challenges in consistently performing at my best.

When I was a student athlete in the States, my staple diet was pizza and coke. In terms of the latter, I drank it for breakfast, dinner, supper and anytime in between. I liked the taste of coke it gave me instant energy but looking back now, I recognize how fundamentally flawed my approach to nutrition was. I regularly suffered from sinusitis, shin splints and mood fluctuations and performing consistently well, was a challenge.

Like many young athletes, I thought energy came from sugary drinks and convenience foods and that held me back from reaching my full potential.

Post graduation, I played on the professional tennis circuit, gaining a world ranking in my first year.

I took a brief interlude from competitive tennis after playing on the tennis circuit and pursued my passion for football with seasons at Cardiff City, Bristol City and Yeovil Town. I enjoyed being part of a team environment and having a collective goal.

I realized that proper nutrition was the missing link in sustaining high performance across back-to-back matches. This experience was pivotal, inspiring me to dive deeper into the world of sports nutrition.

Knowing how to fuel for competition would have enabled me to sustain my level across multiple matches. Understanding this now, has contributed to the longevity of my career, enabling me to be competitive at international level. A highlight of which was winning a bronze medal for Great Britain in the Senior World Team Tennis Championships in 2023.

Fast forward to a coaching career in tennis at Millfield School, where I have worked with a range of pupils of all ages and abilities: during my 24-year tenure, we won several National schools titles, including a double success in 2009, when we won the Girls Aberdare Cup and Boys Glanvil Cup titles. I have coached National champions (U12 and U18 boys) and developed players who have achieved junior and senior world rankings. Additionally, I have captained the Women’s tennis team at a World student games. These achievements have given me joy, but I am most proud of the role I have played in instilling a lifelong passion for tennis, in pupils.

Why I Started NetGain Nutrition

NetGain Nutrition platform  was born out of my desire to fill this gap in sports nutrition knowledge, especially for youth athletes. During my coaching years, I saw parents and coaches struggle to provide accurate nutritional guidance to their athletes. Many times, well-meaning advice was based on myths or outdated practices.

My research confirmed that nutrition knowledge among coaches and parents is often inadequate, leading to poor performance and increased risk of injuries among young athletes.

At NetGain Nutrition, my mission is to bridge that gap by offering practical, science-based nutrition guidance tailored specifically for young athletes, their parents, and coaches. With over two decades of experience working with young sports stars and a personal understanding of what it takes to fuel athletic performance, I provide a unique blend of first-hand experience and academic insight into the world of sports nutrition.
