YOUNG ATHLETES
Physically active children and adolescents enjoy healthier lifestyles and general wellbeing, with the practice of sport offering them the benefit of social engagement and development of self-worth.
Many young athletes, especially adolescents will increase their participation in competitive sports, which involves hours of organised training to improve performances, often in concurrent sports. Elite athletes who are at the highest level of their activity will train more than 10 hours a week. Given the volume of this activity in association with their growth and developmental needs, nutrition should be considered a key determinant in realising sporting success, but it is often overlooked.
Therefore, young athletes require nutritional knowledge to adjust their eating patterns to reflect training demands, support their recovery from exercise and reduce their susceptibility to injury. At NetGain Nutrition, we will guide young athletes in creating a balanced meal, taking responsibility for the planning, and preparing of their food and fluid, to achieve their performance goals. This will help foster a healthy lifelong relationship with food, which extends into adulthood.
